Thai
operator takes delivery of third catamaran
Thai operator Lomprayah High Speed Ferries has taken delivery
of its third catamaran, Incat Crowther 25m Maenam. The two other
vessels in its fleet, Crowther Design 20m Pralarn and 25m Namuang,
were built at the Asian Marine Services yard in Bangkok and entered
service in 2002 and 2004.

Maenam
was delivered by a different builder, Sea Crest 1993 Company in
Samutprakarn, who assembled components produced in Australia.
The 25m catamaran is the largest 'kit boat' produced by Crowther
Design, now Incat Crowther after the merger with Incat Designs
in 2005.
Managing
director Brett Crowther reports, "The vessel was built from
a fully developed and pre-cut aluminium package. The plate and
extrusions were purchased from One Steel in Western Australia.
"The
aluminium package and design provided by Incat Crowther allows
us to reduce first time high speed aluminum ferry builders' exposure
to many of the issues that are faced by other yards at a similar
stage."
Main
engines
Maenam has a more powerful propulsion package than 25m catamaran
Namuang, Two Caterpillar 3412E diesels rated at 820 kW at 2,300
rpm each power a five bladed fixed pitch propeller via a Twin
Disc MG 6557A gearbox.

two 25m catamarans is an extended upper deck saloon on Maenam.

The
main deck saloons of both vessels are fitted out with 176 seats
and a kiosk aft. Three toilers can be accessed from the rear deck.
The new catamaran also has 30 external seats aft on the upper
deck, two more than Namuang.
